- Passiv UK and Kensa have partnered to deliver smart controls for ground source heat pumps.
- The Passiv Smart Thermostat is compatible with the Kensa Shoebox NX and the Kensa Evo heat pump ranges, offering heat pump owners smart, optimised control.
- The Passiv Smart Thermsotat makes controlling heat pumps simple and cuts heating bills by up to 30%.
23 February 2026 – Through a new partnership, Kensa will be offering the Passiv Smart Thermostat to give heat pump users smarter, optimised control, out of the box. The partnership gives homeowners and residents intuitive, intelligent, heat pump-specific controls that cut heating bills by up to 30%, while supporting a more flexible, lower-carbon electricity grid.
Kensa customers will also gain access to Passiv’s Greener Grid Payments scheme, which rewards households for helping balance the electricity grid during periods of constraint. By intelligently flexing heat pump operation without affecting comfort, homeowners can earn money while supporting renewable generation and grid stability.
Ned Lamb, Director of Commercial Strategy at Kensa, said: “Our mission is to deliver heating that’s better for everyone – for Kensa that means offering a solution that offers the lowest bills with no sacrifices on comfort. Being able to specify the Passiv Smart Thermostat with no extras needed means homeowners and residents can make the most of smarter tariffs and flexibility markets, helping them earn money back, while enjoying year-round comfort.”
The Passiv Smart Thermostat works out of the box with Kensa heat pumps, requiring no additional hardware. It automatically replaces manual weather compensation setup by dynamically optimising the heat pump’s flow temperature in real time. For homeowners and residents, they get simple, intuitive controls on the wall and via the Passiv app – removing complexity and saving them money.
Under the partnership, Passiv becomes Kensa’s first dedicated smart controls partner. Ian Rose, Sales and Strategy Director at Passiv UK, said: “This is the future of home energy. With smart controls built in, heat pumps take care of themselves – keeping homes comfortable, cutting energy use, and even letting homeowners earn money when the grid needs them most.”
For homeowners, the Passiv Smart Thermostat makes living with a heat pump simple. Passiv intelligently controls the heat pump to increase heat pump efficiency and optimises energy use around time-of-use tariffs and rooftop solar generation.
The Passiv Smart Thermostat is available for nationwide installation from Kensa.
