Passiv’s Greener Grid Payments service has returned for 2025. This year, we’ve partnered with Voltalis, Europe’s leading domestic flexibility provider, to pay people for using less power at peak times.
This winter we are launching Greener Grid Payments for Passiv Smart Thermostat users. Sign up and we will automatically reduce your heat pump’s power consumption at peak times without impacting on your comfort, earning you money while helping to decarbonise the grid.
Once registered, the Passiv Smart Thermostat connects your heat pump to Voltalis’ flexibility platform, which monitors grid demand and electricity markets to identify when consumption needs to be reduced. During these flexibility events, the Passiv Smart Thermostat automatically adjusts your heat pump to lower consumption.
Before an event, the Passiv Smart Thermostat will pre-heat the home, storing warmth in the fabric of the building so that the heat pump can be switched off for an hour or so without the home becoming cold. The Passiv Smart Thermostat works out the most efficient way to warm your home ahead of each event, considering factors such as your home’s thermal behaviour, rooftop solar generation and any low-cost electricity available through time-of-use tariffs.
Greener Grid Payments runs until the end of March 2026 and participants will earn £75 for taking part.
